Groomsmen at Kenilworth Castle Wedding

Heavy duty security for Dave and his two best men at Kenilworth Castle last weekend. David is with the RAF, he and his bride Kirsty chose the Gatehouse at Kenilworth for their wedding ceremony

I've put a quick selection of images from the day across the page, the groomsmen marching in, the rings (balanced carefully on the Best Man's button hole!) the happy couple leave the gatehouse under the honour guard's swords and then have some together in the castle grounds

Wedding Photographer at Wroxall Abbey

Wroxall Abbey

Catherine and Manzur had quite the most wonderful weather for their summer wedding at Wroxall Abbey. The photographs speak for themselves, I've added Catherine and her father walking to the venue above

Wedding Photographer at Ragley Hall

Walton Hall Bride

Hannah and Frank chose Ragley Hall as their reception venue after a wedding ceremony at Our Lady and St Josephs church in Alcester. Ragley Hall is the most splendid venue, we've taken this shot in the 'red' room before the wedding breakfast

Wedding Photographer at Walton Hall

Walton Hall Bride

To Walton Hall for Shelley and Jon's celebration on a blustery day at a splendid wedding venue. We had some sun and a lot of wind, probably down to the fact that were in England in Summer! Shelly, right, is really enjoying her special day

Bridesmaids at Sherbourne

Shelley's three bridesmaids in the lovely light of Sherbourne All Saints Church's lych gate. Top shade of the highest quality and three gorgeous girls

Wedding Photographer at Whitefields

Bride and Groom at Whitefields Country ClubLaura and Dan married at St John the Baptist, Hillmorton, Rugby and had their wedding reception at the Draycote Hotel and Country Club The hotel includes the Whitefields Golf Club; it just so happens that Dan's a member

Bride and Groom at Whitefields Country Club

I really like the film star look the couple have created as they come down the stairs, I blame the director for the confetti shot below!

Family Portrait

Family Portrait

I deliberately avoid the 'all things to all men' approach and promote my portrait and event work elsewhere - you are most likely reading this because you googled 'wedding photographer' not 'someone with a camera in Kenilworth'. However rules are there to be broken; I really liked this image of four cousins in the Spinney off the Kenilworth Road, Coventry. Taken for their grandmother's 70th birthday. I hope that I won't be taken the wrong way if I say that they are excellent posers!

Billesley Manor Hotel

Wedding Photographer at Billesley Manor Hotel

At the Billesley Manor Hotel (above) with Kelly and Liam. Above I'm using a 16mm fisheye the image from which is corrected in Adobe's new Lightroom 3, the result is at the least interesting, at best dramatic. Compare with the non-distorting wide angle shot I took at Dunchurch below

Bride and Groom in the Garden at Billesley Manor Hotel

I like to get something a little different for the wedding album; the wedding couple were up for this shot which Kelly has made all her own with that smile

The picture is taken in the topiary garden at Billesley, there's not too much shade, but by shooting into the sun with my lovely 85mm f1.4 we've avoided flare and the 'panda eye' problems that we'd normally get without top shade

The wedding took place at Lapworth, I was pleased with the shot below of Kelly's bridesmaids

Wedding Photographer at the Dunchurch Park Hotel

Bride getting ready at the Dunchurch Park Hotel

I was delighted to be asked by Sarah and Amit to be their wedding photographer at the Dunchurch Park Hotel near Rugby. Another splendid wedding venue where I am now an approved wedding photographer. I went along early to catch the image above, it's lighting that makes shots like this so I need to be around when there's an interesting sky and you can't use a flash gun on a whole hotel!

Bridegroom at the Dunchurch Park Hotel

Amit is in the bar while Sarah's getting ready, some traditions will never die! I love the colours in the bar, we're using a flash, but have a wide aperture to give us some exposure on the ambience

Sarah above is lit by my assistant Katy with my Lowell iLight, this a technique that I've only just started using. The video light helps me avoid underexposed mirror shots and gives a warm, soft light ideal for bridal preparation shots

And then together in the grounds, backlight with bokeh - nice!

Proposing on the run!

Warwick to Kenilworth Castle Run Couple get engaged on the run

I was helping at the Kenilworth Rotary Club's two castles run in June. The Anchor in Leek Wootton is on the route, taking part in this year's run were Victor Wixey and Andrea Newton who had first met at the pub. Romantic sole that he is Vic decided to propose to Andrea just as they were passing the pub - as you can see she accepted!

Wedding Photographer at the Forest of Arden Hotel

Wedding Couple at the Forest of Arden Hotel

Suzanne and Barry at the Forest of Arden Hotel a splendid venue outside Meriden. We had another bright wedding day at a venue offering little shade from the midday sun. Fortunately the newlyweds were happy to walk down to the nearby fishing lake for some time with me on their own

Pete Bristo will be delighted to know that there's no flash, the catchlight is from the reflector being held by the wedding photographer's friend - yes, the best man does sometimes have his uses! I have, rarely for me, also used photoshop to extend the dynamic range of this image. Don't tell barry, but his hair was a bit too white for the exposure...

Spring at Wroxall Abbey

Stained Glass Window at Wroxall Abbey Signing the Register at Wroxall Abbey

I was fortunate to be chosen by Nicola and Graham to be their wedding photographer at Wroxall Abbey in Warwickshire on a splendid spring day. Left we see the marvellous stained glass window on the main staircase to the left. I've the album in mind; I want to carry the black on to the background of the printed wedding album page to leave me with coloured glass

To the right 'signing the register' as I like to photograph it (we're not allowed/supposed to photograph the actual signing), no flash to give a film like, almost a water colour finish

Summer comes early

Lower QuintonWe've all got rather too used to wet cold weather so it was marvellous to photograph Sam and Darren's wedding at St Swithen's Church in Lower Quinton near Stratford upon Avon at the beginning of April. The deep blue sky brings its own challenges though - bright, hard light in the middle of the day (the time most people choose for their service of course). Direct sunlight makes some rather harsh shadows so we've kept Darren and Sam in the shade and used a gold reflector to bring that sun back into their wedding portrait

Couple with the Wedding Car

We stopped en route to the reception at Ettington to photograph the newleyweds in that sunshine with their Bentley, you may be able to spot my new Tiffen star filter, I think that it may have softened the picture a touch too much?

Reflections in Bristol

Granite Reflections

Down in the CellarAt the bar

I have Damien Lovegrove to thank for setting these shots up. A day well spent mastering the technicalities of Nikon's CLS (creative lighting system). Nikon can't mange the reflections, yet, we've used a granite pillar (title picture) and polished bar. Clever and creative, magic!

Civil Ceremony

Two Grooms

I was really pleased to be asked by Mark and Clive to be the photographer at the civil ceremony they held recently at Woodside, Kenilworth. Their puppy Clark wasn't actually invited to the ceremony itself, but we made time afterwards to include him in this shot on the right. Can you see that this is using fill in flash, hand held to the right whereas we used a reflector to light the couple in the image below?

Two Grooms

The refector makes for quite a large catchlight on Mark's glasses and the flash is reflected from Clive's forehead even at -3 stops exposure compensation. Does the picture leave you wondering the path leads once it's under that brightly lit bridge?

British Institute of Professional Photography

I am delighted to say that my panel of wedding photographs was accepted by the judges at the BIPP's offices in Aylesbury on the 22nd February. I am now a BIPP licentiate which means that my work has been recognised by my fellow professionals. I've now a page showing my BIPP panel on this site, do take a look

Wedding Photographer at Coombe Abbey, Coventry

Winter Wedding at Coombe AbbeyCoombe Abbey It's been cold; no snow for Cyndy and Phil's wedding at historic Coombe Abbey, but plenty of ice on the Abbey's moat and pathways made it rather tricky, not to mention cold, outside. Our intrepid couple braved the elements and spent some time in the Abbey's formal gardens before their wedding later that afternoon; it sometime pays to break with tradition!

Coombe Abbey is a splendid wedding venue with an entire 'real' tennis court having been converted into a reception venue. The hotel itself is built around the medieval abbey's cloisters and is full of atmosphere having played a pivotal role in the gunpowder plot hatched at nearby Ashby
